Located on the island of Mandhata, next to the banks of Narmada River, Omkareshwar is a famous pilgrimage centre that that includes one of the 12 idolized Jyotirlinga shrines of Shiva. The ancient temple of Omkareshwar is situated in Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh, is a well-known pilgrimage of Hindus. The name Omkareshwar means 'Lord of Omkara, which is one of the Dwadasa Jyotirlinga shrines or the 12 shrines dedicated to lord Shiva in the form of a Jyotirlinga. It's a sacred island which is shaped like the Hindu symbols 'OM', drawing millions of travellers from all across the globe. Whereas the another temple named as Mamleshwar on the south bank of narmada is also of very importance as stated in the dwadash jyotirling stotra "omkar mamleshwaram" sounds as if the jyotirlinga in Omkareshwar is Mamleshwar temple. The ancient name of Mamleshwar is "Amareshwar"
It is about 86 km of a drive by road from indore to omkareshwar which approximately take 2 hrs and 30 min of travel.
1. Omkareshwar jyotirlinga Temple
This is the main attraction and one of the 12 jyotirlingas. It is One of the holiest shrines in the whole of India. The temple is situated on an island called Mandhata, located at the meeting point of the rivers Narmada and Kaveri.

Located near the Omkar Mandhata temple, this 13th century temple is also an important temple here and is architecturally very interesting. It is about 1 km from city center.

Just beside the main temple of Omkareshwar it got some beautiful curated sculptures.
5. Sri Govinda Bhagavatpada Cave
Cave of Govinda Bhagavatpada is linked to Sankaracharya the famous Saint of India. As per sources this place is major spot of Sankaracharya where he learned the Govind Bhagvatpad grantha.
As the legend goes, Adi Shankara walked hundreds of miles through forests, valleys, crossing mountains and rivers finally reaching Omkareshvara to find Shimad Govinda Bhagavatpada in a state of Nirvikalpa Nishtha in a cave under a Banyan tree on the bank of the River Narmada.
